GYXTC8Y vs GJYXCH: Choosing Aerial Drop Cable for FTTH Access
A route-based comparison for selecting round figure-8 outdoor cable or flat self-supporting drop cable in Latin American FTTH access networks.

They serve different parts of the access route
GJYXCH is a flat bow-type drop cable commonly used from a distribution point toward a home or small building. GYXTC8Y is a round figure-8 cable with a central loose tube and separate steel messenger, suited to outdoor aerial sections that need a more cable-like construction. Do not compare them only by price per kilometre.
Use GJYXCH for compact last-drop work
GJYXCH is practical where a small fibre count, compact dimensions and fast subscriber installation are priorities. Confirm fibre type, strength members, messenger size, sheath, span, clamps and whether the cable continues indoors.
Use GYXTC8Y for exposed outdoor sections
The loose tube provides space for fibres and water-blocking protection, while the figure-8 messenger carries the aerial load. Confirm the required fibre count, route length, pole spacing, wind exposure, cable diameter and compatible suspension or anchoring hardware.
Match messenger and clamps
A self-supporting cable is not complete without correctly sized clamps. Ask for the finished messenger and cable dimensions before selecting hardware. Pole material, route angle and termination points also affect the fitting list.
Check climate and installation conditions
UV exposure, rain, coastal salt, temperature range, vegetation, pole access and road crossings can change the preferred construction and drum plan. The project engineer should define span and load criteria; the product code by itself does not define a safe route.
RFQ checklist
Send country and city, route sketch, aerial length, longest and typical span, fibre count, fibre type, drum length, cable marking, clamp quantities and delivery destination. Separating distribution cable from final subscriber drop makes the quotation clearer.
